Basements dating to an 1830 county seat
Lebanon was established in 1830 and became Boone County seat in 1832, and the neighborhoods that grew up around its courthouse square — rebuilt in Classical Revival granite and limestone between 1909 and 1911 — include some of the oldest basement construction in the Carmel area. Century-old basement walls in this part of Lebanon were built long before modern interior drainage or sump-pump systems were standard practice.
Newer Lebanon construction, same clay-heavy ground
Boone County's soils are the same glacial-till, clay-heavy composition found across Zionsville and Whitestown, so even Lebanon's newer subdivisions face the same expansive-soil pressure against foundation walls — the age of the house changes what kind of fix is available, not whether the underlying soil problem exists.
